Here is a unique opportunity to release the "pirate" in your spirit. Position your "eye patch" and head for Duluth this July…
The Roald Amundson of Germany
Ticket sales for Tall Ships® Duluth 2010 will be available online on Friday April 16. You can pre-purchase tickets online by going to www.visitduluth.com. The number of tickets allowing visitors to board and tour the ships will be limited to the first 25,000, the same number as two years ago when Duluth hosted only three ships.
If you’d like to see eight magnificent vessels that harken back to the early days of maritime, set your sails for Duluth July 28- August 3. By more than doubling ship capacity, waiting lines should be significantly shorter or eliminated, according to event organizers. Plus, there are many more activities going on to enhance the event.
The Barouque Europa of Amersterdam
"We are already receiving tremendous response. Fans were so amazed by what they saw in 2008, they can’t wait to come back," said Terry Mattson, President/CEO of Visit Duluth. More than 125,000 people attended the event two years ago making it Duluth’s largest ever.
A Multi-Day "On Board Ship Tour Pass" is available. The pass also provides four-day access to the festival grounds and countless activities.
Tall Ships® Duluth 2010 will showcase eight domestic and international ships, including some of the most acclaimed worldwide:
• Barque Europa
• HMS Bounty
• Freedom Schooner Amistad
• Roald Amundsen
• The U.S. Brig Niagara
• Pride of Baltimore II
• S/V Denis Sullivan
In addition to onboard tours, Tall Ships® Duluth 2010 will offer the opportunity for visitors to sail on Lake Superior aboard the Roseway and S/V Denis Sullivan. Each vessel will sail three times daily beginning Friday, July 30, providing not only an educational glimpse into daily life aboard a tall ship, but also the grandeur of experiencing Lake Superior under sail. You will need a ticket for this experience.
Other ticket options include:
• A Multi-Day Dockside Viewing Festival Pass (without ship access). This pass provides four-day access to dockside ship views and the festival grounds.
• A Single-Day Dockside Viewing Festival Pass is available. This pass provides one-day access to dockside ship views and the festival grounds. Single day dockside passes will be sold only at the gate. Dockside passes also include access to educational workshops and entertainment. While onboard experiences have rather limited capacities, dockside viewing has great capacity. The festival grounds can easily accommodate upwards of 60,000 fans per day.
A significant enhancement over 2008, the Tall Ships® Duluth 2010 festival atmosphere will encompass Bayfront Festival Park and Harbor Drive behind the DECC. There will be food and refreshments, a "Pirate School," musical performances, family activities and educational programs, and a Green Village hosted by Great Lakes United.
Another highlight of the festival is the performance of Gilbert & Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance, arranged by the University of Minnesota Duluth’s School of Fine Arts. Beginning Thursday, July 29, Pirates of Penzance will be performed nightly at 6 p.m., combining the talents of the region’s top performers.
